Wise Quality Technologiescompany will support small scale rural farmers through a developed mobile application called“Agri-Market links APP’’ that will provide access to reliable market information from large produce buyers and processors requirements in form of SMS notification and online platform affordable annual subscription where sellers interact with buyers at local,national and regional level. It will act as an information circulation and access center forsmallholder farmers in Gulu and Kitgum Districts in Northern Uganda dealing in high yield crops; Simsim, beans, Groundnuts and Soya beans and Shea nut enterprises. Information on seed varieties, research on seed multiplication and pests/disease control, extension services and agricultural frameworks will be shared with farmers through the platform to enable them improve productivity and quality control. There will be created sustainable linkages between improved inputs dealers,financial institutions and research institutions service providers and smallholder farmers to improve produce specifications demanded by buyers. Linkages will be easily created with smallholder farmers in these hard to reach areas where the majority operate. Value chain actors will be able to calculate expenses in advance to be spent to collect produce thus increasing farmers bargaining power through the APP. The platform will support in delivering agricultural value chain development services; linkages to training, financing through linkages for negotiated contract growing and access to improved inputs recommended on market.
Our solution will contribute to a 30% reduction on smallholder’s post-harvest losses per year for Simsim, beans, Groundnuts and Soya beans and Shea nut value chainsand 40%marketshare. This will translate intoimproved production, sales and incomesfrom produce put on the market that would ideally have been lost.
Smart agriculture has taken slow pace to penetrate deep rural areas because existing solutions are not inclusive enough. They only carter for already uplifted farmers and the smallholder farmers who constitute majority in the agriculture sector have less touch to such technologies. Our solution is dual in nature it will constitute an App for smartphone users/online and SMS platform for basic phone users. In this we are unique because we do not leave any smallholder farmer behind. We are focusing on solving the biggest challenges today of post-harvest loss and markets by introducing smart technologies that will facilitate sustainable linkages between producers and market actors.
