Availing aquaculture inputs to rural communities

About Solution

The rural areas of coastal Kenya have a high potential in aquaculture with the African catfish and Nile Tilapia being some of the species that thrive well due to the warm climatic conditions. That notwithstanding, a number of debilitating factors such as unavailability of quality and affordable fish fingerlings and feeds hinder local communities in these areas from embracing fish farming. The scarcity of these essential inputs coupled with lack of community sensitization and mobilization towards commercial fish farming will continue to impede the rural communities’ ability to harness the lucrativeness of commercial fish farming locally and internationally. Therefore, in a bid to address these setbacks, Fieldarc Global is committed to implementing a project geared towards promoting commercial aquaculture in rural areas of coastal Kenya. The project will have a hatchery unit, processing unit, research and development unit, and training unit. Ultimately, it is anticipated that the project will inculcate a commercial culture in the rural communities as well as empower them with skills to participate in fish farming.
