PROBLEM STATEMENT
Cocoyam has many health benefits when eaten alone. It has more health benefits when used with bitterleaf to make bitterleaf soup.But the local way of processing it makes it inaccessible for global consumption.The local processing involve 1. Harvesting from the farm or buying from the market. 2. Cooking it 3.pounding with mortar 4.applying it on the soup. Apart from being stressful this method discourages storing cocoyam for future use.
SOLUTION
So we decided to come up with an improved and likely acceptable way of processing this healthy food for global consumption.It is the use of technology for production of powdered cocoyam for cocoyam soup.This includes: 1.Harvesting=farmer or harvester 2.Washing=washing machine 3.sterilizing=sterilizing machine 4.Chipping=chipping machine 5.Drying=open sun drying ,solar dryer 6.Milling=milling machine 7.packaging=packaging machine This process makes it: 1.More attractive and appealing to the customer 2.easy to apply in cooking bitterleaf soup 3.more accessible for global consumption so as to harness it's health benefits 4.promotes public health because of its health benefits 5.It will also create thousands of jobs for employment opportunities both in rural and urban areas. 6.It will discourage rural -urban drift,and improve the welfare of the local farmers because of its employment opportunities.

The farmers are part of the company but on a contract. They are concerned with farming and harvesting cocoyam to provide raw material for the industry.they supply the harvested cocoyam to the mini factory for pre-processing whichare
Washing----sterilising----chipping----drying
After this, we will send it to the main factory for final processing and packaging. In our projection, 100 farmers will supply to one Mini factory which will be located in the rural area.We will have 10 mini factories connected to one main factory. We will have several factories in different regions to ensure constant manufacturing of the products. This will in addition to reduction of post harvest losses ,create thousands of direct and indirect jobs. What makes this supply chain interesting is that it reaches out more to those in the rural areas. Outside of creating jobs for them, it also help in rural development.
