Cheaper, better, safer, more sustainable batteries

About Solution

In order to address the issue of carbon dioxide emissions, 100x growth is expected in battery use in the coming decades if batteries are able to overcome the four key problems of existing Lithium-ion batteries limiting uptake: high cost, long charging time, low energy capacity, limited scalability and flammability. BroadBit is uniquely able to overcome all these key barriers to growth.

Most new batteries competing with traditional Li-ion batteries are based on Li-ion with novel carbon, silicon and metal electrodes and/or using atmospheric oxygen (e.g. IBM's lithium-air) and so are inherently expensive and subject to scarce lithium and/or cobalt availability and cost fluctuations. Moreover Li-ion batteries are reaching their performance limits and no visible Li-ion technology is set to significantly increase energy or power density.

BroadBit has invented and is commercializing a revolutionary high performance family of batteries based on sodium chloride (table salt), SiO2 (sand), C (coal), SO2 (a food preservative and byproduct of petrolium refining) and other common and cheap raw materials, mad with simple and environmentally friendly manufacturing. This technology has 50% more energy per unit cost and 20% more energy per unit mass than existing lithium-ion. It is the only available battery technology that is high enough performance, low enough cost and has sufficient safety, durability and scalability to finally enable the full electrification of transportation and the massive scaling of intermittent solar, wind and wave energy.

Our advantages compared to Lithium-ion are:

1) 50% higher energy per cost

2) 20% higher energy per weight

3) More environmentally friendly, scalable and sustainable

4) Simpler, open air manufacturing

5) Safer (non flammable, no risk of overcharging)

6) More durable (no risk of undercharging, 2x the operating temperature range: -20 to +60C)

We target applications in electric vehicles and grid storage and stabilization and believe that, with our innovations, we can sustainably grow the rechargeable battery market from today's 70B$ to greater than 1T$ in the coming decade. BroadBit literally enables the coming transportation and energy revolutions.
