Comprehensive Livelihood Initiative

About Solution

The solution seeks to diversify the rural economy by providing job opportunities especially for women and young people. Within the Comprehensive Livelihood Initiative, everyone has a role to play; males responsible for planting and managing cashew plants, women are in charge of maize farming in between the cashew plants, and the younger groups will engage in bee keeping. This will enhance inclusive trade and also tackle the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for especially Goals 1, 2 and 8. with the inclusive nature of the initiative, Rural poverty will be eliminated and poverty in all forms will be ended which talks about Goal 1 of the SDGs. Food security and improved nutrition will be achieved and the promotion of sustainable agriculture (Goal 2). Promotion of sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth (Goal 8).

As part of this initiative, members of rural communities will be given training to broaden their scope and think beyond their comfort zone. This promotes education, skills development and innovation to ensure efficiency and productivity.

The outcome of this initiative will not only be reflected in employment opportunities, but also, social development through social amenities to uplift and improve living conditions especially women and children. Also, with a valuable product like cashew, communities are re-positioned to trade not only within the country but also with global markets and partners.

Apparently, communities will gain recognition from developmental organizations who are more conscious of agriculture development and support as well as livelihood empowerment which will create the platform for communities to gain access to developmental initiatives such as construction of roads for easy transportation of products from the agriculture sector, and delivery of health equipment to facilitate and enhance healthcare services.

This initiative requires collaboration at all levels, from planning to execution and monitoring. There will be constant interactions with community stakeholders and the local government to ensure and smoothen the achievement of project goals and eventually, the SDGs.
