Dsimapalm Apiary and Beekeeping Training Centre

About Solution

In rural communities in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria many households rely on smallholder farming and day labor on farms as a primary source of income. With only one annual harvest, families are forced to survive on meager earnings to sustain them throughout the whole year. Without access to alternative income generating activities, families struggle during the lean months between harvests when savings dwindle and families face seasonal hunger. The economic instability of farmers is heightened by their reliance on mono-crop production, making them especially vulnerable to environmental factors effecting annual yields as well as fluctuating market prices. Even in the absence of an agricultural crisis, addressing the economic insecurity of farming families constitutes a pressing issue. We are committed to introducing and integrating life-changing innovations, products and services to tackle poverty by empowering people living below poverty level in rural villages with access to affordable and sustainable solutions. By working with farmers to develop business skills, our Sustainable Livelihoods
Beekeeping Training program aims to combat economic instability and diversify incomes.Dsimapalm Apiary and Beekeeping Training Centre project provides the tools, training, and support necessary for rural farmers to undertake cooperative beekeeping and honey production as an income generating activity. They are given necessary materials and trainings to start up their own cooperative apiary. Over the course of three years, beekeepers will receive training and support for successful beekeeping, honey production, business management, financial administration and product marketing. To fulfill the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SDG1
No Poverty, SDG2
Zero Hunger, SDG3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG9

Life on Land, we must realign the economy to provide sustainable economic opportunity for rural people in ways that does not deplete their environment nor require them to migrate or abandon their villages. My experience, working within the triangle of integrating innovations and Technology into the lives of poor people at the Bottom of the Pyramid, developing a unique Last Mile Distribution model and using PAYGO financing services to serve poor rural unbanked population, opened my mind to interventions that needs to be done in that space. In a bid to increase sources of livelihood we propose to establish an Apiary/ Beekeeping School to train 40% women and 60% youth/men to undertake Beekeeping, change their narratives, contribute positively to climate and environment, protect forests and allow development of sustainable micro agro-businesses.
