EDIBLE PACKAGING: The Way Forward
This solution aims at combating Climate Change through Edible Packaging. This is because Single-Use Disposable Plastics found in packaging and fast-moving consumer goods forms the largest and fastest-growing segment of the plastic economy.
The proliferation of this plastics lead to severe climate change as green house gas are emitted into the atmosphere during its production and recycling. Most of this Single-Use plastics end up in ocean beds which posses a serious challenge to the aquatic life, the micro and macro debris of plastics as well as the green house gases released during its production and recycling is a serious treat to our planet earth.
SIMPLE METHOD OF MAKING EDIBLE PACKAGING (Water bottles)
Items Needed
1. A curved spoon 2. A hand mixer 3. 1 cup of drinking water 4. A bowl with 4 cups of water 5. A bowl with water 6. 1 gram of sodium alginate 7. 5 grams of calcium lactate
Process Involved in Making The Bottle
1. Pour the sodium alginate in the cup of drinking water 2. Dissolve both ingredients with the hand mixer 3. Set the mixture aside for 15 minutes 4. Add the calcium lactate to the 4 cups of water 5. Mix well; 6. Scoop up some of your sodium alginate solution and plop it into the calcium lactate solution 7. Repeat the process as many times as you want 8. Gently stir the solution for three minutes 9. Lift the water blobs with a large spoon and put them a bowl of water 10. Your edible water bottles are ready
