Food-ber

About Solution

The base of the pyramid has very difficult access to quality food; they can affordonly small quantities of products with low price in the basic weekly purchase offood. From this money, just about 5% to 8% goes to producers. In this way, consumers with less resources support paradoxically the poverty of the producers.

Moreover, almost half of the agricultural production goes to the garbage in different moments of the food system. It has a very high cost in terms of energy, water, time and natural resources.Climate change and the current biodiversity crisis pushes us to be as efficient as possible in terms of resources.

The proposed solution consists in a network that connects directly producers andconsumers, especially in the base of the pyramid. The big differences of thisinitiative are:
The beneficiaries: base of the pyramid and producers with less ability to compete in the market.
People from the community provide the transportation, and it would be an extrasource of income for them. The transport could be cars or trucks that are already empty in the way back from their destinations.
The app matches products, interests and possible free transportation. This app has a transparent score system for products, transport, consumers and stores
One of the options in the app is to sell the products that are about to expire or that are not easy to sell into the market because of their shape or weight. Normally, these products end into the waste, so it is a great option to reduce the impact of food waste (third cause of carbon emissions globally) and to offer high quality products to a lower price.

The impact achieved includes:
Up to 25% savings for families at the base of the pyramid and families with the lowest economic resources
Up to 25% more income for the smallest producers
Generation of extra income for people in the community, using "empty ways" of vehicles. Save 30% of fuel in transportation.
50% of the use of surplus in the agricultural production that went to waste before.
Recovery of the 25% energy and 25% water
30% more purchase in local economy
