The challenge of feeding growing cities by socio-economic categories requires a set of political, socio-economic and environmental approaches in favor of sustainable food security for populations.
To meet the challenge of sustainable and healthy food for urban populations, the Darnan Foods company, through its "Chadian food desert" program, is initiating the following innovative and integrated approaches:
1. Creation of an integrated Agro-poultry complex for the production of vegetables, chickens and eggs;
2. Experimentation and promotion of a sustainable rice production model that is more respectful of the environment: Intensive rice growing system (SRI);
3. Promotion of agri-food processing and the creation of a short circuit and online sales for the marketing of food products;
4. Development and promotion of research into technologies adapted to food production and processing in Chad;
5. Advocacy for the implementation of regulatory texts for urban and peri-urban agriculture and the promotion of sustainable and inclusive food systems in Chad
The proposal for this solution is based on urban and peri-urban agriculture, in order to promote sustainable food supply and distribution systems for the populations of the city of Ndjamena, the project intends to set up a ten-hectare farm in Malo (site located 5 km from the city of Ndjamena) in order to create added value to the local food systems available, and to promote agri-food processing and the marketing of better quality local agricultural products.
