Sam forests plans a huge tree project in 2020 with maize under the trees. Maize grows well under trees and its one of the major staple foods in Uganda with over two million Ugandans counting on maize. Farmers grow maize on their land. for those who have no land, they buy maize flour from markets which include transportation. Farmers will use plant wastes as fertilizers instead of artificial fertilizers. We will put a maize milling machine under the plantation to be shared by all farmers which we hope will decrease farmers' movements looking for machines. Food grown, processed and consumed locally will reduce greenhouse gas emissions as it will need less transportation and less packaging in plastics. It's estimated that food transportation accounts for 11% of emissions. In addition to maize ,there are also other vegetables which grow well under trees (beans, tomato, eggplant). We are registered by the government of Uganda with already almost 1.5 hectares of planted trees with farmers growing food under trees

We shall provide farmers with reusable environmentally friendly storage containers which we think will promote sustainable use of materials and resources in infrastructure. Since farmers are producing food locally, Less transportation fuel and plastic bags will be needed which will reduce consumption and waste of plastic Goods especially plastic bags which are so widely spread in the world, reduce pollution and litter and contribute to climate adaptation and mitigation.

Trees capturing carbon, food produced locally, processing machine shared in the area .using waste as fertilizers, will drive the community into a low carbon life.

Our team of,

Mohamed el Mardi who has experience in the development and management of integrated projects and large scale mechanized farming, Solid experience in green renewable energy & biofuels. He is previously MD Kenana group, the largest company in the world for sugarcane growing and sugar production, former chairman of the international sugar committee. He is conscious of climate change.

Yosamu semugooma who has grown trees for the last 15 years and has overseen many forests in Uganda. Studied best practices in the forestry industry and knows a lot about agriculture.

Samuel biyinzika who grew up in a farming family thinks better use of land is the way to mitigate climate change which now is humanity’s most pressing problem.

Food under trees is a new farming model and will move communities towards a low-carbon circular economy by eliminating waste and utilizing existing resources
