Growing Chickpeas In East Africa On Large Scale

About Solution

High Prices On Imported Chickpeas .

A lot of chickpeas is imported from Ethiopia which is very far away from East Africa and it gets worse on off season when the prices of chickpeas go very high and it's demand and this has become a problem to East African community.

As a youth I have been learning a lot from the successful people around the world and one of the lessons I have learnt  is to solve the problems in the society .

This year I decided to invest in  growing chickpeas here in Uganda and I have leased 11 hectares of land and I have been able to plant 10 acres .

I want to serve the growing population of East Africa through this project ,and solve the problem of importing chickpeas in far countries.

I'm planning to extend this project to 100 hectares next year and in five years I want to extend this project to other parts of the country.

They is achellenge of labour in villages where I run this project, most of the youth have moved to Cities and using tractors is very expensive and it's very hard to get the right tractor with the full sets to prepare the seedbeds , planting ,praying and harvesting.

But I can overcome these chellenges if I get the right tractors with the full sets for preparing seedbeds, planting , praying and harvesting plus the warehouse where to collect , sort and clear the harvest.

In the neighboring country of Tanzania they have also started growing chickpeas but it's Indian company and exports it back to their home country .

I want to produce this chickpeas according to world standard and I know they is a lot of ngo's providing chickpeas in refugees camps and a lot of chickpeas they give to refugee camps is imported  and I want to step in with the good quality and good price and start supplying to them.

It's always interesting on the plantation seeing the young mothers coming to work to earn money to support their families and I really believe through this project I can change the life's of people in communities .

Through this project I want to teach and train the  communities where this project runs on how to grow chickpeas on the large scale .

Agriculture is the backbone for our nation and as a youth I'm going to use it to improve the life's of our people.
