legal podcasts on land

About Solution

Ignorance of the law is one of the leading causes of injustices in Uganda and world over. We recognize that very many initiatives have come up to bridge this gap in order to promote peace and justice. The methods being used to promote access to legal information through those initiatives are however costly, time consuming and inconvenient for the people to use. People may for example find it hard to leave their garden work and walk long distances to take part in community outreaches. These among other challenges create a conducive environment for injustices such as land grabbing, child marriages and mob justice to prevail.

Our solution addresses the challenge by reducing on costs and time used in mobilizing communities for legal community outreaches because we create simplified legal podcasts which are mainly shared through radios. This approach was inspired by a Needs Assessment Survey that was carried out by Legal Hub Uganda in May 2019, wherein most of the respondents preferred to get legal information through radio because they have limited access to the internet, yet on the other hand almost all households own radios. We prepare audio legal content that we share through local radios for our offline community. These audio content is also shared on our soundcloud (legalhubug) for the online community. Our approach hence makes information available not only to the online community but also the majority of Ugandans who do not have access to the internet.

Through our podcasts, people get to know their rights and how to enforce the same. More importantly, we use simplified English and other local languages, as such tackling the illiteracy problem, and reducing the legalese.

We also provide telephone contacts through which people can call us for free legal consultations, as well as links to our facebook account (LegalHubUganda), whatsApp line and website (www.legalhubug.com).

Our solution promotes legal awareness by providing legal information that is time saving, cost effective, and available for all Ugandans and people beyond to access at their convenience.
