About Solution

Introduction:

Mushrooms are considered as 5th most favorite vegetable around the world and super food by the scientists due to its nutritional value and medicinal benefits. We are growing mushrooms via using agriculture waste and minimum mechanization in a sustainable, environment friendly way.

Problem/Pain:

  • Climate change
  • Food Security
  • Burning of agriculture waste
  • Excessive use of resources in mushroom production
  • Highly mechanized mushroom production
  • Malnutrition
  • Unemployment Solution

Due to climate change conventional agriculture produce is not meeting its potential specifically in developing countries and food security becoming sever day by day. Mushrooms are rich in nutrition and have a lot of medicinal benefits even effective against cancer. Mushrooms grow in indoor control environment so climate change is not a concern. The proposed mushroom production technology in less mechanized, environment friendly and affordable to adopt specially in Asia and Africa.

Salient Features:

  • Required less investment
  • Required less infrastructure
  • Required less mechanization
  • Efficient use of resources
  • Better than canned mushroom in taste and quality
  • Round the year production
  • Use of agriculture crop waste as growing medium

Facts and Figures (for 300 squire feet production unit):

The growing medium is sterilized, in this process rise in temperature is required. According to conventional method; it’s common to use wood as fuel for heating and sterilization. This process produces a considerable amount of Green House Gases (GHG), 200 g Nitrogen dioxide, 1900 g Carbon dioxide and 70 g methane during burning of 1 kg wood to sterilize 40 kg of growing medium and also required minimum 60,000 gallons of water per year. Moreover, air conditioners, humidifiers are the equipment use electricity and increase the per unit production cost.

According to our proposed technology; we recommend and do steaming for sterilization to avoid use of excess water and fuel. We sterilize the minimum 40 kg growing medium by using 336 g of natural gas and 10 liters of water. Furthermore in some cases electric heater is used to maintain the desired temperature in winter season.

  • Use less fuel only 336 g of natural gas
  • Saves 60,000 gallons of water per year
  • Saves 13140 units of electricity per year
  • Reduction in 12000 kg of agriculture waste burning per year

Achievements:
