Recently reasearch shows that rural settler are endowed with unique skills and also rich agricultural vegetation’s to grow good crops. Like in Nigeria, we found out that skilled craftsmen and women in cloth weaving, Tie and dye, pottery , sculpture and carving amongs many, are found in the rural settlements. They produce unique crafts and yet they still have little means of survival. Also great farmers farming cash crops like Shea butter, cashew and palm nuts amongs many are also found in the rural settlements. Some of this farmers are suppose to be rich farmers but instead they barely survive on their produce.
One of the major cause of this problem is due to the fact that the rural communities have not been exposed to a wider range of markets where their crafts and farm produce are high in demands.
This solution will come in handy by doing a detailed documentary of some rural communities, showcasing their unique cultural heritage together with their beautiful crafts and quality agricultural produce. Then uploading it in the mass media where a portal for comments, suggestions, sponsorship will be provided. After gathering and gaining attention from the world, a rural trade fare will be organized and neighboring rural communities around will be allowed to participate. Urban settlers/foreigners around the globe will be attending the trade fare to buy and patronize the unique crafts of this rural settlers. Farm produce like palm nut for palm oil processing, cashew nuts, shea butter and other cash crop will be traded to foreigners.
This exposure will give opportunity to the rural communities to sell their products to a wider range of customers and also help the communities to become a good trading station. It will also give opportunity for development in the community as government will help improve the social amenities as the settlements will be viewed online by the world. This solution will help improve their standards of living as they now make more than average income from sales of their goods.
In all this solution helps bring in urban and foreign settlers to rural communities to do trade. And it’s only made possible when the documentary on such settlements goes viral in the media.
