Rural communities access markets

About Solution

The Taluma flour mill will enable value addition to the maize farmers produce. The farmers will supply the maize at a competitive price instead of selling off maize cheaply during the harvesting season. Good storage is also lacking so The company will provide storage for farmers. The women and youth will be employed in the factory. The maize flour from the factory will be fortified with vitamins to provide nutritious food for the community specifically the children. Therefore, the impact on the livelihood of the community will be greater both through increased incomes and nutritious food. The flour mill will be distributed beyond the western Kenya region and thus impact other catchment. The bi
product from the factory (germ and Bran) will be processed into livestock (chicken, cattle) feed. Therefore, when drought sets in the animals will not die of hunger. That will mitigate and minimize livestock lose due to drought. With increased incomes, better nutrition, the farmers will be able to take children to school and also take care of the health issues since they will have more disposable income. I am also a woman who has lived in this community and understand the need of the community which can be improved through market access.
