Built on the core of redirecting youth development, empowerment and transformation towards a climate smart agricultural revolution, the Art Planet Academy is establishing an agro
innovations hub in Miirya village, Masindi District where replicated climate smart agricultural technologies would be tested for adaptability to the local farming context before being promoted in farming communities. Accordingly, an indigenous chicken production unit is to be established to breed, multiply, and demonstrate best practices in indigenous chicken production to create a sustainable and ever growing network of poultry farmers and to commercialize indigenous chicken production in rural communities. A network of 100 contract farmers will be established in 1 year and each of the farmers provided with up to 240 one month indigenous chicks in 2 installments and on credit. Besides, the 100 contract farmers also will be supported through the yet to be established unique agricultural financing scheme in which they are to access feeds in form of maize brand and tailored technical support all of these on credit basis. The entire credit facilities will be repaid during the production stage of the farmers’ enterprises in form of the eggs laid by their chicken and the organically maize grain they will be supported to produce.
