The single-use plastic bag has been a menace in our society. one of the biggest sources of these bags is the supermarkets and neighbourhood stores. Billions of plastic bag make their way to the hands of the user, who discard them after just one use. 80% of these bags make it to the landfills, which are often burnt. Burning releases GHG and other toxic elements into the environment.
My solution proposes to eradicate the use of plastic bags and replace them reusable bags made from sustainable materials like jute, raffia, hays, cotton and canvas. each of these bags has a barcode that is customized uniquely for each shopper and is tied to a special loyalty program, where users get accumulated discount points and can be redeemed anytime. The discount is a form of incentive to encourage adaptability.
Each of the bags has a life span of 2 years or an average of 150 shopping times, meaning one bag is replacing 150-200 plastic bag.
