SOLAR COOK STOVE FOR RURAL KENYAN SCHOOLS

About Solution

Reduction of emissions of CO2e

Implementation of a functional solar stove in larger schools will result in an annual reduction of the use of unsustainable firewood of 100 to 200 tonnes, corresponding to a reduction of approximately 165-370 tonnes CO2e PER SCHOOL. The potential is to transform the present energy use of a share of the many thousand schools in Kenya towards sustainability, with nine more systems planned for installation by 2022, in addition to the first. Beyond Kenya, in time hundreds of thousands of schools in SSA, and further types of institutions and geographical markets, would potentially benefit from this technology.

Other benefits

The carbon emission reduction does not happen at the expense of school operations nor its economy – the payback time for the stove is less than three years, and reduced deforestation, indoor emissions and cost reductions come with the technical change.
