The project is targeting southern province affected by energy poverty leading to unsustainable usage of forests by poor communities, small scale farmers and business sector that are dependent on firewood for cooking and heating purposes leading to deforestation. It will provide an alternative solution for communities and such businesses’ energy needs through biogas. The organic product Digestate from biogas production is a good fertilizer that will substitute mineral fertilizers for farming households, small scale farmers and communities. Project will promote reforestation through establishment of tree nursery with five facilities as points of sale in connection with community biogas plants. Project will therefore reduce the global warming footprint of the communities, agriculture and business sector through substitution of biogas for fuel, substitution of digestate for mineral fertilizers produced with fossil fuel use, and reforestation through tree planting promotion. Project shall build local capacity for technical assistance and business sustainability, establish biogas investment credit scheme for its customers, and business solution marketing through marketing agents to reach out to its potential customers.
Through introduction of new technology into the market the partnership will
work with all parts of the value chain to generate new business in
communities.
