Teach Me How To Fish

About Solution

Sustainable food production is a major goal that we should all aspire to. Rural areas, which often tend to occupy majority of the land mass of a country (such as mine, Ghana), tend to be left to rot away along with their agricultural and human resource potentials.

My goal is to establish a network that will provide rural populations with quality technical and vocational practical education taught by international and national volunteers knowledgeable in agriculture and technology, with the aid of relevant equipment and materials. These acquired skills would be applied within the rural environments, in the form of employing proper farming techniques, developing tools and machinery, utilizing alternative energy and more.

Additionally, through establishing thriving sector specializations in product production as the residents of each area learn how to harness agricultural potential, this system would boost inter-regional trading on a barter-level with minimal fiscal costs and strengthen the national economy.

In addition to promoting healthy, homegrown food and increasing exports, this system will give these communities a sense of ownership and social responsibility over the positive changes they participate in, thereby ensuring sustainability and greater self-reliance. I therefore aspire to empower rural communities to learn how to fish, rather than constantly depend on waiting for someone else to provide them with fish, as is often the case with developing countries.
