The Bakulu Tri0-Solution

About Solution

Remote island communities on Lake Victoria are faced with the challenge of access to affordable sanitation services and energy for cooking and electrification. Our solution uses an affordably constructed anaerobic digestor to turn human waste from at least 500 households to biogas and a pathogen-free slurry for fish food. The biogas replaces the expensive fuelwood for over 500 households a day and also meets their energy needs more affordably than hybrid solar PV systems mini-grids. The solution is a result of research undertaken by Richard Sseruwagi, an M.Eng. Energy and Environmental Management graduate at a German University for his master's thesis on a remote island on Lake Victoria.
