About Solution

According to 2018 FAO stat and Sululta Woreda Agricultural Office data, 60% to 70% of the livelihood of the farmers in this Woreda depends on rearing of dairy cattle and related practice. There are a number of problems associated with low living standard of the poor farmers in the Woreda.

1. Animal feeding practice: Even if feeding is the key for maximum milk production, the feed source for 90% of the individual farmers in Sululta Woreda is grazing land.

2. At spot milk market availability: Since there is no well developed market system in place, they are enforced to sale their milk to individual milk collectors which collect milk with cheaper price.

3. Access to improved dairy breed: The third challenge here with the farmers is, they are not getting the access to improved breed which yields maximum milk production.

So as a strategy to solve the above problems, the innovation is just creating an integrated dairy farm having dairy farm, dairy feed processing and dairy milk processing plant which improves the lives of poor individual farmers in Oromia region and the country by starting the implementation in Oromia region, North Shoa Zone, Sululta Woreda through the following actions.

1. Increase availability of dairy feed: The farm is planning to produce and distribute dairy feed with affordable price at minimum profit margin to improve their dairy cow milk production.

2. Creating milk market link: The farm is planning to create market system for those poor farmers to sale their milk with best price which really change their life in the long run.

3. Increase access for improved dairy breeds: The farm is planning to distribute 40% of newly born improved dairy cattle from the farm with minimum acceptable price for local poor farmers to transform their dairy breed to improved breed by retaining 60% of the calves as replacement. In addition, access to artificial insemination and increasing job opportunities are some of the benefits of the farm.

Even if the project will be planning to starts the revolution in Oromia Region, North Shoa Zone, Sululta Woreda it was planned to expand to each and every corner of the country to touch each and every poor farmers in the country to improve their way of feeding and their market access. So the project is planning to touch 1000, 000+ poor individuals including farmers, inhabitants at cities, and students at scale up stages.
