U-recycle Hubs

About Solution

My project is focused on addressing the issue of plastic pollution. Plastic waste is killing thousands of marine wildlife, polluting the world’s ocean, threatening ecosystems and biodiversity, posing risk to human health and clogging drainages resulting to flooding. For over a year, my organization U-recycle Initiative (www.urecycleinitiative.org) has vastly researched and our findings have motivated us to proffer deep-rooted, innovative and systematic solutions towards combating the problem of plastic pollution, which is eating deep into the health of our planet.

We intend to address this issue by building U-recycle hubs (a monumental building constructed using the plastic bottle-brick technology) in schools. It would serve as an environmental resource center where students can learn and research vastly about marine wildlife, oceans, plastic pollution and collaborate to champion initiatives (mini-projects) to proffer solutions towards combating plastic pollution. It would feature a virtual reality) lab (featuring an under-water experience). Furthermore, constructing one U-recycle hub requires about 15,000 Plastic Bottles, therefore utilising this plastic waste rather than dumping them in landfills, oceans or to be burnt off

This grant would give my organization a significant head-start in commencing the construction of U-recycle hubs across Africa. It would enable us to purchase building materials, hire masons, architects and builders, furnish the building with features like solar-power, flooring, roofing, virtual reality lab, upcycled chairs and desks as well as other required features.
