Vegetables of Hope

About Solution

Vegetables of Hope is a Beninese commercial farm which produces and sell organic strawberries, raspberries and melon vertically and indoor, in recycled sea-containers with 90% less water and nutrients and with absolutely ZERO pesticides; available all year-round. The company is inclusive of skilled young women from the local community.

How does our solution address the challenge?

1. We use less water, energy and nutrients than in conventional agriculture. Actually, climate change has put a lot of pressure in our natural resources; therefore, we are experiencing a rapid soil degradation which implies to use a lot of money in manure to restore. Rainfall are now erratic with a long drought and a lot of flood which destroys the culture even if they are done under greenhouse covers. So, our containers allow us to be protected from flood and rainfall and our vertical agriculture system allow us to increase our fruit yield to at least 60% more than in conventional agricultural agriculture.

2. Our company is inclusive of young women from the local community: we work with skilled young women and women association for the production of our fruits, which we train. We contribute to women employment and having regular revenues help them ensure their children' education and have a better life: shared prosperity

3. Our fruits are available all year-round due to our production system, we contribute to diversify access to nutritional and healthy food to our consumers.

4. While taking care of our customer's health, we limit our impact on the climate by being ecological responsible in our production system. Our containers installed in different cities limit the transport of the fruits, then totally reduce the carbon foot print generated by transport.

5. Our business open door to transformation and expansion since we plan to introduce new products from our fruits such as: fruit chocolate, the nutritional breakfast (made with our dehydrated fruits, other tropical fruits and cereals in small portion).
