Waste to Energy

About Solution

This solution to waste management, environmental pollution and power failure is addressed by collecting organic waste and recycling it through anaerobic digestion where it is converted to biogas. The biogas is then upgraded and used to power gas turbines which would generate 50 MW of electricity. This is a major problem in Nigeria as we are the largest population in Africa with about 30 million tons of waste produced annually. With this number of waste it has become a menace as there is no adequate form of treatment. With the insufficient power supply in the country this project would solve the problems by generating additional 50 MW to the national power grid. The biogas would also be used to augment cooking with kerosine and wood which causes air pollution as carbon monoxide is released in the air. This would be a revolution in the power sector and it would be the pioneer of renewable energy in the Nigeria.
