The idea for a social enterprise is to reduce or completely eliminate the use of single used plastics. This will all start with the project called EcoSur.
The project EcoSur is actually the first project that I thought of to fight climate change. Plastic pollution is getting worse if we don't do anything about it, so I decided to reduce plastic pollution at its core, by stopping to use single-use plastics. In this case, we will start by banning plastic bags and replace them with cotton bags and carton boxes. I know from the start that I could not have done this alone, so that's why I pitched my project to my organization. But we lacked funding and the cotton bags are too expensive to buy and sell to consumers. So the best way to cover the cost was to partner up with private companies so that they can place their brand or logo on our bags, they then have to pay a small fee for it. This way the cost of the bags were reduced and the companies have an extra marketing strategy, it is a win-win for both parties.

Finding partners,
We already have a few companies that are interested in the project “EcoSur”, they are offering their resources and expertise. They also think it is a good idea to give the cotton bags as an incentive to their employees. Other companies can do the same for their employees or they can fund a few bags to sell them at a reduced price to the public. Our aim is to have at least 10 companies or organizations join our initiative within 6 months. We need to realize that plastic pollution affects us all, that’s why we should all join together and fight plastic pollution.
Creating awareness,
We will start a social media campaign where we share our content that will be made of infographics, infomercials and real-time pictures on how to be more environmentally friendly by using cotton bags and carton boxes. Our content will show how you can use your cotton bags effectively and how to keep it close at all times, a lot of people tend to forget them at home because we are used to plastic bags.
Finding other sustainable alternatives,
Together with our partners we will find or create other sustainable alternatives to reduce single-use plastics. As an example instead of plastic toothbrush we can use the one that is made out of bamboo, instead of thin plastic straws we can use the hard reusable ones, etc. This will push other organizations, governments, and private companies to join the movement and eventually expand to other countries. We just need to create a spark so that the idea can be carried on.
EcoSur mission is to reduce single-use plastics all over the world, step by step. So if we spread the awareness now to reduce the use of plastic, they will then learn the habit and culture to save our planet from plastic pollution. The right time to reduce the use of plastics was yesterday the right time to act is now.
