energy for all

About Solution

Climate change is one of the major challenges in some sectors, particularly the agro-pastoral sector in Burundi. The effects of climate change have a negative impact on agricultural and livestock production while the majority of the population in Burundi lives mainly from agriculture and livestock.Rural areas are experiencing an advanced degradation of ecosystems, and particularly increased pressure on forested areas. Indeed, in the face of the electricity deficit and the difficulties of access to the conventional network, wood is still the main source of energy for families. This is why the installation of biodigesters would value the excrement of cattle and small livestock (sheep and poultry). This project aims to develop alternative energy, a real lever for the social and economic development of Burundi's rural communities. The production of biogas allows to:
produce energy to meet domestic needs: lighting and cooking
control the methane emissions from the fermentation of animal waste
lighten the work of cutting and carrying wood for women
reduce the amount of wood smoke inhaled in kitchens, thereby reducing the risk of respiratory and eye infections
