The government of Uganda through the ministry of agriculture seeks to help farmers in finding ways of safe and clean methods of drying the agricultural product for instance providing farmers with solar dryer as a way of preserving their agricultural produce.

However, communities Arua district use traditional methods of drying food that is to say sun drying where various crops like fruits, vegetables, cereals, grains, tobacco and cassava are spread on the ground and turned regularly until they dry properly and then finally stored. There are many observed problems associated with this method of drying that is to say; Requires large amount of space and requires long time to dry to the required standards, contamination, infestation, microbial attacks of food by dust, soil particles, pests since food is left in open air.

Therefore, as a result of all those challenges above construction of a solar dryer is being proposed to curb such problems.
