Orphan Crops combating climate change

About Solution

According to the African Orphan Crops Consortium (AOCC) “greater use of...orphan crops could be a partial solution to Climate Change”.According to (as seen on video) research Fellows Ehtel Phiri and Palesa Mothapo “people have lost interest in the use of indigenous crops for food and prefer the more costly commercial crops, despite high rates of poverty”.Maungo Craft isa food company turning orphan crops like Morula that go to waste in Botswana, into multi-award winning preserves. We complete a New Climate Economy.

Our solution: Our process partners use the oil we keep the fruit pulp. Seed cake waste will make organic fertilizer. Seed cake and skin will create animal feed for which there is a desperate shortage in Botswana. The nut will make biochar to purify water, gold and platinum. The trees are carbon sinks! Nothing is left to waste!

Maungo Craft has won11 local and International Awards in 3 years. 2018, at theSummer Fancy Food Showa Maungo Craft preserve was endorsed by Martha Stewart. 2019, we wonGogettaz, a pan Agripreneur prize awarded by African billionaire Strive Masiyiwa and Yara International. 2019, we were shortlisted for theXynteo Impact Maker Awardin Norway for change makers with business solutions for climate change.
