Around 600 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa lack electricity according to the world bank. One month ago we started our pilot project in Kigali, Rwanda, where 7 million out of 12 million inhabitants lack electricity. SOLALYTE is focussing on providing energy to people who live in extreme poverty and who are not connected to the grid. Through understanding these issues my team and I were able to find an affordable solution. We developed a solution which is based on renewable energy combined with battery technology. We recruit young entrepreneurs from the rural villages as our franchisees who sell our solution. Our invention replaces dangerous kerosene candles and empowers the rural communities. Access to electricity not just contributes to the improvement of education, health and social life, it also lifts people out of poverty. It is the key to a life with more opportunities.
