Uvera is an early-stage startup that introduces a technology to increase the shelve life of fresh foods. Our technology uses a specific wavelength of ultraviolet (UV) light that has the capability of destroying the DNA of different kinds of bacteria and foodborne pathogens that causes food spoilage and foodborne illnesses. Our solution is free-of chemicals, compact, portable and user-friendly hardware that can be installed inside any refrigeration setups to provide food disinfection and environmental monitoring of temperature and humidity levels. The technology is patented and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Our aim at Uvera is to cut food waste by reducing the rate of fresh food spoilage. Food spoilage is a global issue that has direct and indirect effects on humanity, where one-third of global food is wasted because of spoilage and costing more than $35 billion annually. Besides its economical effects, food waste is responsible for producing 3 billion metric tonnes of greenhouse gases into the planet atmosphere, resulting in a huge negative environmental impact and contributes genuinely in magnifying the size of the international dilemma of climate change. Therefore, our mission is to employ technology and innovation to effectively participate in the global challenge of halving food waste by the year 2030.
Our vision at Uvera is to employ innovation, science and technology to resolve two of the world’s most concerning issues: food safety and climate change. Therefore, besides reducing food waste, our technology guarantees safer food for human consumption, where the capability of our technology to deactivating most of the food poisoning bacteria and viruses, such as H1N1, E-coli, Salmonella and mold spores, was proven by scientific experimentation and examination.
