Waste Tire Recycling

About Solution

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Dar es Salaam is among the fast growing business city in Africa with an estimated population growth of 10,000 million residents. The waste management systems in Dar es Salaam are not capable of managing thousands of tones of wastes produced everyday in the city. As the result, the waste management has become a challenging task in the city and country wide.

The disposal of waste-tires in country has not yet been given priority and as the matter of facts there are tens of thousands of used tires spread all over the city and its suburbs.

Poor disposal of waste-tires has many negative impact on the environment which includes but not limited to the following; environmental pollution, act as home of mosquito breeds which can carry and infect humans and animals with diseases.

Additionally, waste tires that trash the city can begin to leak heavy metals into the soil and affect land-based and aquatic organisms (Msimbazi water basin in this case). The Indian ocean which is surrounding the city of Dar es salaam is also suffering from the same fate of waste tires and plastics that are thrown everyday. This can greatly disrupt the sensitive ecology.

Consequently, we respectfully requests $200,000 to invest in a project to clean up tires in Dar es Salaam in order to: a) demonstrate the financial effectiveness of investing resources, and; b) to prevent poor disposal of tires from crossing as currently spread over the city, c) income generation activities for youth and Low income women in the City.

STATEMENT OF NEED

Poor disposal of waste tires have negative impact on environment and health issues, if not properly handled they can be a good cause diseases and of floods that happens almost every rain season in Dar es salaam. It is high time to join hands to solve the problem.

this means that there will be creation of employment opportunities for the youths and low income womens groups in the City
