Usafi Sanitation address the challenge, by distributing and installing EnviroLoo water-less Green Eco friendly toilets. Kenya is a host to over 2,000,000 external refuges from our neighbours, Somali, Ethiopia and South Sudan. Over the years Kenya has experienced political instability and as a result an estimated 200,000 people were displaced internally (Internal Displaced Persons). These refugees mostly live in refugee camps or migrate to informal settlements in Kenya. Among the largest challenges they experience is access to proper toilets and as a result the water is polluted and causes rapid spread of water borne and communicable diseases. The EnviroLoo is a water-less toilet solution that prevents the human waste into coming into contact with the environment. We intend to partner with local youth and women to promote the use of EnviroLoo, this will ensure that the human waste within refugee camps and informal settlement is well managed and treated as a result there will be reduced contamination of the environment hence curb the outbreaks and spreading of water borne diseases as a result of poor handling and disposal of human waste. The fact that the EnviroLoo is also water-less the usage and maintenance will be convenient as water is also a scarce resource in the refugee camps and informal settlements. Our model is designed to partner with youth and women as our last mile service providers so we shall train refugee women and youth on how to install and service the toilets, this will help address the skills gap that refuges experience and will ensure that they are social economically empowered.
